First Semester Reflection
CONTENT SKILL- Power Rule
A skill that sticks out in my mind that we learned this semester is the power rule used in derivatives. The power rule is
f’(x)=n*x^(n-1). Here is an example of the power rule: f(x)=3x^4+2x the first derivative using the power rule is f’(x)=12x^3+2. For me this skill seemed really fun to learn. After my tutor explained it to me and showed me a few examples it clicked. I really enjoyed doing first and second derivatives using the power rule. I struggled with using the power rule when the original function had a fraction in the exponents. To help me with this I will practice these specific problem a lot until they become less difficult.

PROBLEM SOLVING SKILL- Collaboration and recognizing errors
During problem of the week 5 I worked with a peer in my class to solve the problem and do the write up. Throughout the problem solving process we got many answers but by checking with our teacher and classmates we found that not every answer was correct. We had to take the time to look for errors in our math to help us get the right answer. In the beginning of the year I had a hard time with Calculus because I would get a lot of wrong answers and I had to really learn that making mistakes is okay and that I can learn from them. At the end of the semester I started to really work with my peers and bounce ideas off them and ask for help, I learned that classmates can be just as helpful as teachers. I will continue to work with the students and other teachers around me and I will ask more questions. I will continue to make mistakes but I will take the time to realize that they are good erros because I am learning from them.
